Namibia
Namibia
Our journey starts in Southern Africa, in the Namib desert, the world's oldest desert situated in the south west coast of the African continent. This unique geographic feature has distinct flora and fauna found in few places in the world. We'll begin our African journey here in Namibia and then head north to Zimbabwe, then on to the mountains in central Africa’s Rwanda, and finally east to the Serengeti plain in Tanzania.
While we visited Namibia, we went to the Etosha National Park, where the desert animals are protected. We saw a lot of wildlife, including wild jackals fighting for food, black rhinos, secretary birds, cheetahs cooling in the shade, a bull elephant taking a mud bath to ward off insects, and even a black python.
We tracked this old elephant following a herd of females. Later he chased a herd of antelopes out of a water hole so he could take a mud bath. The mud protects elephants’ skin him from insects and the hot sun. The old bull remained with a female until the herd moved back to the bush.
Namibia was occupied by Germany during the European country's attempt to dominate Africa. This is a Lutheran Church in Windhoek, the largest city in the country. Also shown here are photos of the city park, a modern hotel, and a fortified American embassy.
